We, Yuko and Shuichi Umino, two classically trained musicians, have been living in Kiel since 1998 and have witnessed firsthand how sushi and other Japanese dishes have become increasingly popular in Germany. Yet, even after ten years, there was no genuine Japanese-run restaurant in Kiel or all of Schleswig-Holstein. Instead, more and more establishments emerged that, in our view, did not represent what we consider to be 'authentic Japanese cuisine.' For us as Japanese, culinary art has been a central part of our culture for centuries and is deeply intertwined with our daily lives. We realized that if we didn’t take the leap ourselves, Kiel would never have the opportunity to experience true Japanese cuisine. In 2010, we decided to take that step and founded 'Restaurant ann' in Kiel. 15 years have now passed: thanks to the loyal support of our guests, we have overcome many challenges and continue to this day. From the original 'Restaurant ann,' 'ICHI Japanese Fine Dining' has emerged at a new location on Falckstraße, where a highly skilled team of Japanese chefs is crafting an entirely new culinary story. At the former location on Holtenauer Straße 158, we have been serving you since 2019 in our specialty restaurant 'RAMEN ann' – the first ramen restaurant in all of Schleswig-Holstein. We remain the only Japanese-run restaurant in this region, offering an authentic dining experience that only true Japanese can provide.
